Growth Updates 0-8 Weeks

Pregnancy

Congratulations to DKV Rottweiler’s stud, Rico Suave and our beautiful female, Sophie. Sophie did very well during pregnancy. It actually never slowed her down a bit. She stayed active and still loved to run and play fetch up until delivery day. Sophie delivered 2 males and 4 females. This was her first litter of puppies, and she is proving to be an outstanding mother. Congratulations!

Delivery Day

Congratulations! Sophie had a very smooth delivery. She went into labor pretty quickly and each puppy came out in hour intervals like clockwork. Being that this was Sophie’s first litter of puppies, we were unsure how she would respond as a mother. Sophie was very curious after the first puppy, but seemed to understand her role quite quickly. By the time the last puppy was delivered, we were confident Sophie was going to be a wonderful mother. Sophie delivered 6 healthy babies and we are so excited to share some photos with you all.

Week 1 Update

Hello DKV family!

We made it through week one. This is an important milestone because the first week determines which puppies will make it and which ones will not. All of the puppies are striving and doing great! Sophie is continuing to prove to us that she is a great mother. Sophie keeps her babies close to her, and seems to be very interested in each and every one. We are very happy with week one’s progress.

Week 2 Update

Hello DKV family!

At this age, the puppies are sleeping 22 hours a day. Yep, you read that correctly. They wake up just to feed, and 5 minutes later, they are back asleep. This is good though, this means they are growing and doing well. Puppies this young cannot regulate their body temperature, so it is very important that they stay close to mama at all times, to keep their bodies warm. Sophie makes sure that her babies are always near her belly and sometimes we will even find one under her chin. Sophie is doing an amazing job.

Week 3 Update

Hello DKV family!

This is probably my favorite week because all of the puppies eyes have opened and we can now see their beautiful faces look back at us. There is really nothing sweeter. All of their ears have opened as well, and it is great to see how each puppy reacts to hearing new sounds for the first time. You can begin to see the puppies grow a little more curious, and just begin to wander from mama, ever so slightly. They are growing up on us y’all.

Week 4 Update

Hello, DKV family!

Another progressive week for the babies. These babies continue to grow and change each and every day. They are now becoming more playful with each other and beginning to hop around the whelping box a little more. These babies are becoming more independent and more confident to wander from mama. They are very curious about everyone who walks by and love to be talked to.

PS. Sorry for the delay in responses and photo. We had a loss in our family, and have been out of state planning a funeral. Don’t worry, our sons, Angel and Hector held down the fort and took great care of the babies.

Week 5 Update

Hello, DKV family!

The babies turned five weeks old today and we are just shocked at how fast time is flying by. These babies are so curious and get so excited to see people. They have been introduced to toys and there curiosity continues to grow. It is so funny to watch puppies play with their toys. No matter how many litters we have, puppies always want to tug and wrestle with their siblings for the same toy, even if there are 10 in the whelping box. It always amazes me, just like our own kiddos. LOL. Angel will be introducing some puppy food to the babies this week. The babies are still nursing on mama, but the extra meals each day will help them to stay satisfied longer. Have a great week!

Week 6 Update

Hello, DKV family!

Here are the babies at 6 weeks of age. They are absolutely stunning. We love how “clean” they are. By clean, I mean their skin is tight without too many wrinkle and their baby coats are slick and very soft. Even the richness of their face coloring is stunning. We are so pleased with this combination.

The puppies are eating kibble now and have begun weaning off of mama. This can be a hard time for some litters. Sometimes the puppies will refuse to eat kibble because they only want to nurse. So far, they are transitioning well.

Curiosity is at a high. They enjoy playing with their plush toys and of course everyone always wants to play with the same one at the same time. LOL. That is true with every single litter. These babies are building their confidence each day and they want to explore further each day. After they receive their first puppy vaccine next week, we will allow them to explore as much as they please.

Just like every Rico Suave litter, these babies are playful but very mid range. Rico is so consistent when it comes to the type of temperament he produces. His puppies are always more on the mellow side and everyone is always pleased with that. This litter is no different.

I tried to take a bunch of photos for everyone. I hope you all love the photos. We will begin selecting puppies this week! Have a blessed evening.

Week 7 Update

Hello DKV family!

We have made it to week seven. That means your babies will be coming home in less than a week. Yay!!! Our Rico Suave and Sophie babies are such a joy to be around. They are so sweet and precious. When we walk by the whelping box, they all come running to the door and just stand there and wait for you to pick them up. They are very playful and enjoy playing with plush toys. They are so curious and like to explore around the house. However, the moment they see you, they can running right up to you. They definitely know how to make you feel special.

The puppies are all weaned off of mama. They are now eating hard kibble throughout the day. This will make their transaction to their new homes super easy. I will be emailing everyone information on general care, food instructions, and a schedule for upcoming needed vaccines. I will also supply a helpful supply list, as well as some helpful tips and general advice on caring for your DKV Rottweiler. Congratulations everyone! We look forward to meeting you all in a few days!
