Pregnancy

Congratulations to our stud, RICO SUAVE, and our gorgeous, RIZZO. We have four of the cutest, chunkiest baby boys! This is Rizzo’s first litter and we can already see this will be an impressive combination!

Delivery Day

Congratulations to our DKV families! Rizzo delivered four very healthy babies, all males. Rizzo was a real trooper. She was calm throughout her delivery. This was such a surprise, being her first litter. After each puppy, Rizzo was instantly protective of her babies and eager to lick them clean and round them up close to her. She truly impressed us the entire day. There is no doubt in our minds that she will be an amazing mother. Her maternal instinct was so natural and beautiful to watch.

As stated above, this is Rizzo’s first litter and we can see already that she is just as an impressive producer as her mother, Brenda. We already knew Rico Suave was a phenomenal producer, just like his father Italian Stallion. This combination was an attempt to duplicate the extreme beauty of our Italian Stallion and Brenda litter. I have to say, Angel did something right. It was a great decision to pair these two beauties together. Beautiful puppies! Congratulations again to all our DKV families.

Week 1 Update

Hello DKV family! Congratulations on selecting our Rico and Rizzo litter. First, I have to stress that Rizzo is turning out to be one of the best mama’s we have. Every time I walk by and take a peek in the whelping box, she has all four boys corralled up to her belly, and they are usually nursing. That is very impressive for a first time mama. Angel makes sure the newborns are nursing every two hours, and Rizzo is making his job very easy. I personally have not walked by her whelping box once and seen her pups scattered away from her. Second, another reason why this is extremely important is because newborns cannot regulate their body temperature the first few weeks of life. It is very easy to lose a puppy if they do not stay warm. With Rizzo keeping her babies so close to her, she is assuring they are warm and healthy. Third, Rizzo does an amazing job at keeping her puppies clean. That might not seem like a big deal, but it is. Newborn puppies cannot relieve themselves after nursing, and it is up to the mama to lick them and stimulate them to go. When you have a mama that does not do this, you have fussy babies, and it can get quite messy to say the least. Rizzo keeps her puppies well fed, super warm, and super clean! Sorry to make it all about mama, but we are just so impressed with Rizzo right now. She is doing such a great job!

Overall, the babies are doing phenomenal. They are so freaking cute, chunky, and I know they are going to be quite impressive with their looks, because they have amazing features already. At this age, there is really nothing to report since they sleep approximately 22+ hours of the day. Yep, that shocks everyone, but it’s true. They only wake for a few minutes to nurse, and they are sleeping again. It’s all up to mama, or Angel, to make sure all of the other jobs are getting done to keep them healthy. And as I stated above, it could not be going better.

Week 2 Update

Hello DKV family! First, the babies are doing phenomenal. They are little bear cubs and just as precious as can be. They all have amazing appetites and soon as their bellies are full, they are back to sleep in minutes. They are living the good life.

Rizzo continues to be the best mama ever! I cannot stress how proud we are of her. She loves her babies so much, but she also gets excited when we come by and pick them up. It is as if she is so proud and wants to show them off to us.

One of the best updates during this week two is that the babies eyes have opened!!! I say it with every single litter, this is my most absolutely favorite event during the first few weeks of life. Even though we see them every day, it’s as if we are seeing them for the first time, when we pick them up and realize they are looking back at us!

On a side note, I want to thank each and every one of you for being patient with us. This was a very eventful week for our family. Our son, Carlos, is officially married! We had the entire family over our home and every one has to peek at the puppies. Since they are so young, we did not allow people to pick them up, but they were definitely admired. We had to drag everyone away from the babies to get them back to the party. LOL.

I pray you all have a blessed Christmas. We have to deliver the puppies from our last litter to their new families tomorrow. Then, we get to celebrate Christmas with our loved ones. Once we get a breather in, we will take some photos for everyone, I promise. I just wanted to provide an update and let you all know the babies are doing wonderful. Merry Christmas to you all.

Week 3 Update

Hello DKV family! Week three has went well. Puppies have turned into huge cub bears! There eyes are open and their ears are open and they are absolutely stunning! We knew this was going to be an impressive litter because of the parents we combined, and they are definitely living up to our expectations.

Puppies are all nursing like pros. With only four puppies, they all nurse, and then they find another nipple and get a second serving. It did not take long for them to learn this. LOL. That might be the reason they are chunky bear cubs so early. LOL.

At three weeks of age, they don’t do much yet. They are learning to waddle around. They still stay close to mama for the most part. This will definitely change in the next week. But for now, they are being fed well, they sleep well, and they are learning to walk around.

I cannot stress how thankful we are for your patience. Our son’s wedding has come and went. We then had family stay over our home through Christmas, which was a special treat. Now our three sons, and daughter-in-law, are all home until New Years. This is why we have been “closed” for the second half of December. We do reopen after New Years. This is when I will be back online full time doing emails, photos, videos, etc. I will continue to browse my emails once a day, but please continue to reach out by phone or text if you need a quicker response.

Week 4 Update

Hello, DKV family! I hope everyone had a blessed Christmas and New Year. Again, Angel and I both thank you all for your patience while DKV was closed for the holiday season. We had an amazing holiday with the family and we are now ready to get back to work.

Let’s talk about these cutie pies!!! These babies are turning four weeks old this week. I know everyone has been so patiently waiting for some individual photos, so I made sure that was my first priority today! I cannot wait to hear what you all think about these puppies! Aren’t they gorgeous! At four weeks old, puppies begin to play (very gently) with each other. It’s actually kind of funny because they just paw at each other mostly. At this age, they also start to become more curious and wander away from momma, just a little bit. Best of all, they become more curious of people and want to be picked up.

As we told you all before, Rico Suave is consistent with producing the most mellow temperament offspring. It does not seem to matter who he is bred to, Rico’s puppies are always calm, gentle, and great for families. This trait is already viewable with these puppies. When we picked them up today for their photos, they simply give kisses and were so cooperative. Trust me, that is not always the case. LOL.

Overall, the babies are doing excellent. They are striving, they are loved, and they are waiting to meet you in just 4 more weeks! Enjoy the photos!

Week 5 Update

Hello, DKV family! Week five is coming to an end and these babies continue to be absolutely perfect. They are calm, gentle, affectionate, and just so darn loveable. As you can see from the videos, they are all plump and healthy. LOL. They all have great appetites! Not only are they nursing on mama throughout the day, Angel has also introduced softened kibble and they chow down with no problem.

Overall, they babies are doing great. As stated above, they have been introduced to food and water. They also have been introduced to toys. They don’t quite care for toys just yet, but that will change rather quickly. We continue to pick up the puppies as much as possible, just to get them comfortable with being handled. When we do, they just want to crawl up to our necks and fall asleep. I guess our skin is the warmest spot. It’s super sweet.

I took individual videos this week so you can get a slightly better view of each puppy. I think our DKV families enjoy videos a little more than still photos. I hope you all enjoy them!

Week 6 Update

Hello, DKV family! We made it to week six. All four puppies are doing great and they are all absolutely STUNNING!!! At week six, the babies are playful and very curious. They enjoy playing with toys and they absolutely love attention! Their energy level is mild, which is exactly what we were expecting from this combination, specifically because that is what Rico Suave is known for producing. I think everyone is going to fall in love with their puppy instantly!

I don’t think I need to say it, but they all have amazing appetites. These babies were already fourteen pounds at only six weeks old. They look like solid bear cubs! The babies did get their first 6 week vaccine this week. They will return to the vet again next week for their required health documents so they can travel home soon. Everything is on track and we will begin our puppy selections this weekend after new individual photos are taken!

Week 7 Update

Hello DKV family! We made it to the final week y’all. In just a few days, you will be bringing your new DKV Rottweiler puppy home. This litter is very impressive. All of the puppies have impressive looks, outstanding size, and mellow personalities. They are eating well, pooping well, and sleeping well. LOL. Overall, they are doing great and just about ready for their new homes.

On Monday, these babies will go to the vet for their final exam and to receive their health documents for their travels home. After that, we will start the official picking process and complete our purchase contracts and AKC documentations. Enjoy the photos everyone!
