Pregnancy

Congratulations to European CHAMPION, Pablo Escobar Junior Montagna and DKV Rottweilers newest import, Dina Von Junipera. We have a confirmed pregnancy!!! We are so excited!

Delivery Day

Congratulations to all our DKV families! Our beautiful import, Dina has delivered seven puppies, four males and three females. We are always concerned when a female has her first litter because there is no way to know what kind of mother she will be. Not all dogs have that natural maternal instinct the second they give birth. We are happy to announce, Dina surely has it! She seems to be amazed by her puppies. She keeps them close and is constantly loving on them. Dina does not even move at all when they are nursing. We are so happy that Dina is showing outstanding signs of being a wonderful mother.

Check out these babies y’all. They are chunky, healthy, and as cute as can be! We are so happy. CONGRATULATIONS to all our DKV familes!

Week 1 Update

Hello DKV family! We made it to the end of week one and the babies are doing great! Their appetites are absolutely amazing, as  you will see in the videos. Mama continues to be protective of her babies and we are proud at how well she is doing with her puppies, especially being her first litter. Overall, we are very pleased and excited to watch this litter grow.

During the first two weeks of life, not much happens. Newborn puppies sleep about 22-23 hours a day. I know that sounds unbelievable but it is true. The puppies stay next to mama at all times, since they are unable to regulate their body temperatures at this young age. The simply wake for a minute to eat, potty, and go back to sleep. LOL

If you did not know, puppy eyes and ears are both sealed at this age. So, they do not see or hear anything. These will begin to crack when they reach two weeks of age, so any day now. We do not handle the babies too much at this age. All we focus on is making sure the puppies stay warm next to mama, are nursing every two hours, and keeping mama fed and happy. Next week, we will begin to see changes. Enjoy the videos. Look how strong they have gotten!

Week 2 Update

Hello DKV family! Week two went great. As I explained last week, the first two weeks of life are quite quiet. These two weeks are spent just allowing mama to bond with her babies and allowing the babies to grow strong, and this is exactly what has happened.

Dina continues to grow as a mother. You can see her become more attached to her babies as each day goes by. Dina is learning to groom and care for her puppies very well. Even small things like getting up to go outside, you can tell Dina is very aware of where she stands and making sure she does not step on a pup. These are all great things we like to see.

The puppies are growing strong and becoming little chunkers. They have good appetites and are absolute pros at finding mama when it’s time to nurse. When they are not nursing, they do not wander to far from her. If one gets too far, they wiggle their way back pretty quickly. LOL.

The biggest change this week is the puppies have opened their eyes. This is always my favorite part about the end of week two. It just makes it more real to see the babies look back at you. The puppies ears have also opened. This is when the babies will begin to react to new sounds and noises. The best part of their reactions is hearing them bark for the first time if something startles them. I haven’t heard any bark yet, but I am sure it’s coming.

That’s all for this week’s update. I did not get any photos or videos this week but I will post new photos next week. Usually photos and/or videos are done at week one, three, five, and seven. I will occasionally do extra, but today we have a birthday in the family. I hope everyone has a blessed day and enjoy the rest of your weekend.

Week 3 Update

Hello DKV family! I am doing this week’s update a few days early since I won’t be available this weekend. Overall, puppies continue to do well. Their eyes and ears are open and they are as cute as ever, which you will see in the photos below.

All of the puppies continue to nurse well and seems to be putting on weight consistently, which is a good thing. They are so lucky. LOL.

The puppies are still sleeping most of the day, so there is not too much to update this week. Remember, puppies cannot regulate their body temperature at this age, so that is why they stay close to mama at all times. That will begin to change next week when they will begin to explore a little further and begin to get picked up more. Until then, enjoy the photos!

PS. Yellow collar male has a small white spot on his chest, which you can see in his first photo. This is in the Rottweiler DNA. If you don’t know, the Mountain dog, which has a white chest, was one of the breeds that created the Rottweiler. As a result, it still pops up occasionally in a litter. This is only cosmetic and does not affect the health of the puppy in any way. It just makes them a little more unique.

Week 4 Update

Hello, DKV family! Week four went very well. The babies continue to grow and so do their appetites. As a result, Angel introduced our puppy milkshakes to the babies this week. They are still nursing on mama throughout the day, but this will give them that extra something to fill their bellies longer. After, their are 7 big puppies and mama can only produce so much milk.

Personalities are starting to show. The puppies are becoming playful with each other. They like to paw at each other, chew on an ear or two, try to bite mama’s tail… things like that. They are still calm and mellow at this age, but that will change by next week!

Now that the puppies are coming out of their shells, we will begin to watch each individual puppy closely and learn their individual traits. We like to see if one steps up as an alpha, who is the first to run up to us for attention, who is the first to charge for the toys, is there one who tries to hog the food… All of these things will tell us a lot about each puppy’s individual personality.

That’s all for this week. I will meet you back here this weekend and get some photos or videos for our next update. Thanks and I hope you all have a blessed week.

PS. I am sorry for the delay with my update. I might have mentioned this in a previous update, or not, but our son is getting married in two weeks! I am going crazy trying to get everything ready for the big day and family coming, so that is why I am a bit late with my update. I did not receive a single email from anyone, so thank you for being so kind. Again, my apologies.

Week 5 Update

Hello, DKV family! We are nearing the end of week five. Can you believe it! Just like I stated above, this week was completely different from last week. The puppies are charged to full power now. They play hard with their toys and each other. They like to pounce on each other and are extremely playful. When they hear us walking by, they all go charging at the door. When we open the whelping box door, they all stick their head out and get excited to be picked up.

Appetites are still strong! These puppies love their puppy food and as of right now, they still nurse on mama. This is the last week, however. They will probably get pretty upset next week when they realize there is no more nursing allowed, but we have to get them ready for their new homes. Usually, puppies may refuse to eat since they get pretty upset when you pull mama away. But don’t worry, this does not last too long. They get hungry really quick. LOL

Personalities are shining through. So far, there is not one puppy that stands out from the rest with extreme traits. We will continue to watch the puppies and update everyone as we learn more.

Week 6 Update

Hello, DKV family! The puppies turned six weeks old today. I will post the new videos here, since the puppies go to their new homes in exactly two weeks from today. This way, we are more on track with the updates.

As I stated above, puppies are now officially weaned off of mama. Dina is not too happy about being away from her puppies, but we have to get the puppies ready for their new homes and allow mama a chance to dry up. The puppies were actually okay with eating their puppy food exclusively. They enjoy it so much they are covered with food all over when they are done. LOL. So, that is a great sign.

The litter went to the vet today and received physicals, heart checks, fecal test, and received their first puppy vaccine. We are happy to announce they are all healthy and no heart murmurs were detected. Size is also quite consistent with only a range of one pound difference between all seven puppies. Health certificates will be issued later this week on all the puppies.

I am sending out a total of seven emails this evening, so be sure to keep an eye out for all of those. They will contain lots of information including puppy supply list, feeding instructions, tips and advice for receiving your new puppy, and much more.

Below are videos of each individual puppy. We will begin our selection process tomorrow! Enjoy!
